Seminar Audio-Visual Sources
Course Description
The aim of the seminar is to get practical experience in conceiving, researching and actually building an online exhibition of audiovisual archival material.
We work with the format of a blog, starting with an empty template and filling it with content over the course of the project. We use creative commons material exploring the current issue of the virtual archive — how can one, from a professional perspective, curate this type of material?
Each student makes a contribution to the blog, focusing on an area of their own interest. As an entry into their area of choice each student picks a specific person, an exemplary personality from that field. For example, if one is interested in sound restoration, an experimental musician or a practicing sound restorer makes an interesting entry into this topic.
The blog is intended to become a platform for development and demonstration of individual processes of all the students. It will be updated each year for the course and it will eventually become a showcase of students’ work and interests. This setup allows everybody, amongst students and teachers, to address a theme on a meta level (curating creative commons material online) while simultaneously letting students explore and shape their own interests.
